Every year I am part of a panel of 3 (restaurant reviewer Twyla Campbell and CBC TV host Adrienne Pan are the others) who share our picks for best Edmonton restaurants of the year, and recently our 2017 picks were released.
So how good a year was it for Edmonton restaurants? Well, new spots where I’ve had very good meals didn’t even manage to get a mention, which is both a shame and a great sign.

EDMONTON AM INTERVIEW
In the meantime, here’s a picture of one of my favourite dishes from my Edmonton’s Best New Restaurant selection- the Sea Bream Crudo from Bundok.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for sharing this list. I’m new to Edmonton and this gives me a lot of ideas for places to try. I am especially interested in the “Best Takeout” category because I am looking for good food that I can pick up on the way home from work. I drive from the Edmonton Airport up through downtown every day, so I can stop pretty much anywhere along the way. Do you have any more recommendations besides Little Village?

Hi Ben,
Sorry for the inexcuseably late reply on this. Not sure how I missed the comment.
There are a few places that come to mind for me right away. I love the Chix Shack on 109st just north of Jasper ave. It’s Thai take-out, and quite delicious and inexpensive. The pad thai and red curry are great, and the roast chicken is tasty too.
If you’re into fried chicken, and who isn’t, Seoul Fried Chicken is at 7904b 104st, and does great chicken with lots of interesting flavours to choose from. It’s quite inexpensive as well, so go nuts!
Farrow sandwiches is at 76 ave and 98st, and is a good spot to pick up sandwiches and some good baking. If you want to venture slightly east of there, Drift Food Truck runs the concession at the Shamrock Curling Club and they make very good sandwiches and sides. I had a great meatball sub there just last night.
Slightly out of the downtown core is The Local Omnivore, which has outstanding smoked meat sandwiches and some killer spicy poutine. You can’t go wrong there either.
I hope that helps a bit, but if you need even more suggestions, email me at baconhound@gmail.com and I will hook you up!
