MEAET- Dinner With a Blindfold and a Fork

Edmonton is awash in philanthropic food events that cater to those with deep pockets, but where are the fun and interesting events for those of us who want to get involved in some way without putting some serious tread marks on our wallets?

They’re few and far between.

Thankfully my friend, neighbour, and all-around community do-gooder Rebecca Swanson recently clued me in to a really interesting sounding event put on by Edmonton’s NextGen, of which she is a key member.

It’s called Dark Meaet, and it’s being held at Latitude 53 in downtown Edmonton.

In a nutshell, Meaet is a community funding initiative in which a group of presenters, with ideas they require funding for, pitch their ideas to a crowd over a meal. At the end of the night a vote is taken and the winning presenter receives the money collected that night.

What’s even more interesting for this event on April 3rd, is that the 3 course meal will be eaten in the dark.

All diners will be blindfolded, and you will experience the tastes, smells and feels of the food, as well as hear the presentations, without the aide of your sight.

Even without the charitable aspect of the evening this would be a blast to participate in, but when you consider that $10 of every $25 ticket sold goes directly into the funding pot, you’d think this will sell out really quickly.

This sounds so cool! I would love to go to all the awesome food-related events that go on in Edmonton, but you’re right, some of them can be really pricey. Thanks for posting this! 🙂

      Thanks for the comments Lindsay.

Yeah, I get emails all the time about $100 and up events and I’m starting to think everybody in Edmonton is rich but me! lol. This should be fun, so I hope to see you there.

      Phil
