Siam Thai Kitchen- CBC Radio

Recently on CBC Radio Active I talked about a new Thai restaurant in Edmonton called Siam Thai Kitchen.

Siam Thai Kitchen Green Curry

The restaurant opened in August of 2020, but quickly became my favourite spot for delicious Thai food. It may seem a little surprising that a brand new restaurant in an industrial area could become my favourite so quickly, but there’s plenty of reasons for that.

Right from my first conversation with Siam Thai Kitchen owner Esther Kagaoan, it was obvious she has a huge passion for making top quality Thai favourites from scratch. She painstakingly makes her own curry pastes- something I have not found another Thai restaurant in Edmonton doing to date- and her red and green curries are outstanding. Full of flavour and brimming with complex flavour.

In addition to that, she makes her own tamarind sauce- and i’m not even talking about using packaged tamarind pulp. Esther starts with the actual fruit still in the pods, and transforms that over the span of a couple days into a slightly sour yet sweet and fresh tasting tamarind paste for use in many dishes including the tasty pad thai and addictive tamarind chicken.

The commitment to quality at this off-the-beaten-path Thai eatery made it a perfect choice for the inaugural edition of my new radio column. Below I’ve linked to the audio, and I’d highly recommend grabbing some takeout from Siam Thai Kitchen!
