Recently Robyn and I participated in the Home for Dinner program at Ronald McDonald House, and though we’ve done it before, this time extra fun since we didn’t have to do any of the organizing or grocery shopping.
3 cheers for laziness!
The whole event was organized as an official Yelp event by Edmonton Yelp community manager Jennie, and a lot of the food was donated by local businesses, which was a huge help. Pulling off a time consuming event like this a couple days before Christmas is no small chore, so kudo’s to Jennie for the hard work and vision to put together this event in the first place.
Given the proximity to Christmas, turkey and ham were on the menu, along with mashed potatoes, salads, roasted carrots, brussel sprouts with bacon, ginger buttered green beans, and cookies for dessert. Since you’re probably curious, Robyn and I made the brussel sprouts and green beans, because when you think Baconhound, you think vegetable expert.
Here’s a few pictures from the event, though mostly of the stuff we made since it was easier to snap a quick picture before we served. If you’re interested in participating in the Home For Dinner program yourself, contact the Ronald McDonald house for more info.

GREAT job – those brussel sprouts look FANTASTIC! no surprise that every last one was eaten! nice way to help out anytime of year, but especially nice to take some valuable time at christmas.

Thanks, Super Su!
I was a bit worried when I got stuck with the sprouts that nobody would eat them, but it was very satisfying to see them disappear so quickly. lol.
